Traveling is often portrayed as a glamorous and exciting adventure, filled with picturesque landscapes, breathtaking sights, and unforgettable experiences. While it's true that travel can offer incredible moments, it's equally important to acknowledge the less glamorous aspects of globetrotting. From flight delays and uncomfortable hotels to disappointing excursions, the realities of travel can sometimes bring us down. In this blog post, we will explore the highs and lows of traveling and discuss the importance of having a platform to share unfiltered experiences.
Sharing the Ups and Downs
The Flight Frustrations:
Air travel, although convenient, can be a source of frustration. Delays, cancellations, lost luggage, and cramped seating can quickly dampen our excitement. Furthermore, long layovers and jet lag can leave us feeling drained.
How I challenge this inconvenience?
Take a break from the tension of the crowd and hang out in an exclusive lounge. Enjoy peace and quiet with amenities like drinks, food, and snack with a views. Maybe enjoy a shower or massage. Wondering how to get in?
Some credit cards grant access, like
Platinum Card from American Express
Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Citi Advantage Executive World Elite Mastercard
Certain airlines give you these perks dependent on status, such as
Class of ticket- business or first
Status with airline
When all of that fails see if the lounge offers a day pass. It could be worth the price
The Not-So-Dreamy Hotels:
Advertisements often present hotels as paradises on Earth, but reality doesn't always match the pictures. Uncomfortable beds, noisy neighbors, lackluster breakfasts, and unreliable Wi-Fi are just some of the disappointments we may encounter.
How I battle this ever coming true?
Reviews. I read most recent reviews anywhere I can find it.
Search social media for visual confirmation.
If its a Vacation Rental (Airbnb, VRBO) I always message them and ask question.
The Disappointing Excursions:
We've all had high expectations for an excursion, only to find that it fell short of our dreams. Whether it's a lackluster tour guide, overcrowded attractions, or overhyped landmarks, these experiences can leave us feeling underwhelmed.
How I challenge this inconvenience?
Reviews. I read most recent reviews anywhere I can find it.
Search social media for options and visual confirmation.
I compare prices and time slots. Every popular excursion site has different pricing and time slots. If I can get the same experience for a deal I always feel like I am winning.
I write reviews after from my experience. I include things I wish I knew before booking.
Cultural and Language Barriers:
Navigating a foreign culture and language can be challenging. Miscommunication, misunderstandings, and cultural differences may lead to frustrating situations.
How I make it work?
First and foremost, I remember I am a visitor in their world so it's up to me to try and assimilate, not them.
Download the language on Google Translate so it works with little to no signal.
Learn a few words and phrases before hand. This helps me to be able to listen familiar terms.
Words I try to know- Hello, Goodbye, thank you, How much, No, Yes, Black, Woman, Bottled Water, Help.
The Emotional Toll:
Traveling can be emotionally exhausting. Especially when any of the previous encounters rock your world. Away from the comfort of our homes and familiar surroundings, we may feel homesickness or encounter feelings of loneliness. Unexpected setbacks or encountering unfriendly locals can add to our emotional strain.
While travel can bring us joy and enrich our lives in countless ways, it's crucial to acknowledge the less glamorous aspects that often get overlooked. I hope these realities of travel will help manage your expectations for your future journeys.
I don’t want you to be afraid to explore this world. I want you to have the confidence and resources that make it easier to enjoy travel.
