Hidden Gem Bali- During our honeymoon in Bali, my husband uncovered a gem on Airbnb that turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime find – the Balian Retreat. Nestled in the tranquil district of Tabanon on the west coast, far away from all the tourist paths, this 5-bedroom masterpiece promised a secluded paradise for our romantic getaway. Spending a few days here sounded like a dream come true.
This entire villa was ours to relish. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered panoramic views of the lush surroundings – a working rice field that, while breathtaking, meant we weren't entirely secluded. But more on that later.
Each morning began with a hot breakfast and coconuts available on demand. What pulled us in further was the discreet path to the beach. It felt like we were sneaking off to our own private haven. The Balian Retreat was indeed a picturesque backdrop to our romance. There was also a motor bike available to explore the rest of the area freely. As our anniversary approached, my husband orchestrated a surprise with our host – a home-cooked dinner and in-home massages on our last night. The Balian Retreat wasn't just a place to stay; it was a canvas for unforgettable moments.

However, every paradise has its quirks. Despite being marketed as a private oasis, the reality was a tad different. The stunning views were shared with a working rice field, bringing occasional visitors very close. A neighboring residence added a touch of proximity that challenged the notion of complete seclusion.
Additionally, being away from tourist hubs meant a heightened language barrier. Few eateries dotted the vicinity, compelling us to become fast friends with the Grab app and Google Translate. Adaptability became our ally.
In retrospect, the Balian Retreat was a beautiful chapter in our honeymoon story. It offered a unique blend of seclusion and surprise, creating a canvas for our celebration of love. To the retreat's credit, its quirks would not hold me back from booking this property again. Making it an authentic Balinese experience.
